Whilst the rush up to December 12th 2011 came and went in a political solar flare, the outlook for investing in PhotoVoltaics for your home and business remains bright, says Ian Hudson of Hudson Green & Associates Ltd. “We still believe the returns offered by PV’s is high compared to other forms of investment available to home owners on a modest investment budget. Although the tariff is due to drop on 1st April, the sharper than expected falls in the price of purchasing PV modules has meant that the investment returns from installing a system on your home or business are still very attractive!”

“linked directly to inflation”
For those looking to invest in a system for their own home may be concerned about the overall returns, in terms of payback and maintenance. However, Joe Noke of Worthy Energy Solutions, is confident that these concerns can be met. “The units are fairly maintenance free, generally coming with a 10 year guarantee on the PV modules, with a 25 year performance guarantee and an expected lifespan of 35 years”, he added. “Not only that, but the tariff is payable for a 25 year period, linked directly to inflation.”

“interest rates are historically low”
Whilst not every household has the cash budget to consider these as an investment from which they will get a return, there are other funding options available, such as re-mortgaging your home. This is particularly relevant if you are not necessarily looking to move and whilst underlying interest rates are historically low.

“returns are tax free”
Despite the economic uncertainty, investing in your home often makes good sense and sits well with home owners; being able to see your investment is often a great reassurance, even more so when you could be set to see your energy costs reduced. Not forgetting that the returns are tax free!

Contact Hudson Green & Associates Ltd for more detailed information on all types of financial planning.

First time buyers struggling to get on the housing ladder may finally get a helping hand with recent product additions to the mortgage market allowing people to borrow 95% of their property’s value. The opportunities this presents may come as a welcome surprise for those who have been struggling to increase the size of their deposit; they may finally have access to a product that allows them to make the move from rented to owning their own home.

Commenting on the addition of these mortgage products, Ian Hudson remained a little sceptical, “It seems that these products are not yet mainstream and until the likes of the big four banks bring a 95% mortgage product onto the market, first time buyers will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis. Nevertheless, it does demonstrate that some banks have taken the view that confidence is returning to the market for first time buyers which is a welcome change of attitude; after all it is the lack of first-time buyers which has contributed significantly to the stagnation of the housing market”.

Figures provided by the Office for National Statistics show that the UK consumer prices index rose to 4.5% in August, up 10 basis points from 4.4% in July. The last change to the Bank of England’s quantitative easing programme came on 5 November 2009 when the Bank increased its size by £25 billion to £200 billion. The Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has previously stated inflation could peak higher than expected, reaching 5%, but it said this would fall back to the government’s long-term target of 2% throughout 2012 and into 2013.

The MPC will be meeting this week to decide whether or not to make any changes to base rate and whether to increase QE. According to Simon Embley, Group Chief Executive of LSL Property Services, inflation could hit 6%. He says, “The last round of quantitative easing boosted growth rates by about 2% and it also put 2% on inflation. We could easily be looking at 6% inflation. We are assuming that if the underlying inflation we have in the economy today, a large proportion of which has come as a result of stuff which is beyond our economy’s control, remains the same, if there is no change to imported inflation, quantitative easing will add to that inflation problem.”

Meanwhile, the British Chambers of Commerce has called on the Bank of England to implement another round of quantitative easing, pushing the size of the programme to £250 billion, as well as other “radical methods” to bolster growth.
